Industry Master Participation Agreement
The BAFT-IFSA Master Participation Agreement (MPA) for trade finance transactions is an industry standard document that is used by banks and their counterparties around the globe to facilitate the buying and selling of country and bank trade finance related risk. In use in its original form (governed by English law) by the industry since 2008, the MPA is designed to simplify the exchange of documentation between banks and reduce legal costs by minimizing redundancies and excessive bi-lateral discussions. The MPA is designed to increase efficiency and promote trade. A supplementary form of the MPA that is governed by New York law and intended to support true sale accounting treatment was launched in September 2010.
